Lithium Americas Corp. is a resource company primarily engaged in the exploration and development of lithium deposits across the United States and Argentina. The firm holds significant interests in several key projects, including Cauchari-Olaroz in Argentina's Jujuy province, the Thacker Pass project located in northwestern Nevada, and Pastos Grandes within Argentina's Salta province. Formerly known as Western Lithium USA Corporation, the company officially rebranded to Lithium Americas Corp. in March 2016. Its establishment dates back to 2007, and its corporate headquarters are situated in Vancouver, Canada.

The U.S. government's latest $500 million investment in critical minerals wasn't directed at publicly traded companies — but public market investors shouldn't ignore it. By backing lithium processing, cobalt refining and battery recycling projects, the Donald Trump administration is signaling where it sees the next bottlenecks in the domestic battery supply chain may be.

Lithium Americas Corp. (LAC) has been upgraded to a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy), reflecting growing optimism about the company's earnings prospects. This might drive the stock higher in the near term.

My case for Lithium Americas is inspired by the 1983 Tom Cruise film Risky Business, the need to sometimes say "what-the-heck" (last word edited for decorum). Actually, the basis for what-the-heck investing is similar to a classic Warren Buffett concept, knowing that a company's future success is inevitable. That's so for lithium. It wasn't always a big deal, even as batteries started to become popular. But lately, thanks to EVs and so many other things, demand is mushrooming.
