RBC Capital Markets has repeated an Outperform rating on Glencore PLC (LSE:GLEN), pitching a 600p price target, as the Canadian bank continues to favour the miner over more diversified peers. The broker's target implies around 23% upside from the current market price of around 513.8p, Glencore's appeal, according to RBC, is its lack of iron ore exposure, along with its coal earnings leverage and potential restructuring options, including a coal spin-out or copper project stake sales.

Glencore PLC (LSE:GLEN)recent share price weakness may be overlooking a familiar source of earnings upside: coal. Shares in the mining and commodities trading group have fallen about 10% so far this month even though prices across its commodity basket have risen around 4%, according to Citi, which argues that investors are underestimating the potential for another rally in coal prices.

Citi has added Glencore PLC (LSE:GLEN)to its European Focus List and raised its target price to 770p, citing a bullish outlook for both coking and thermal coal underpinned by six distinct and uncorrelated demand and supply drivers. The broker said Glencore, the world's largest seaborne thermal and coking coal producer, is positioned to benefit from safety-related mine closures in China and substitution of Iranian steel output driving coking coal demand, alongside the end of an Indian destocking cycle.
