Short-dated gilt yields edged lower after the Bank of England left interest rates unchanged, as widely expected.

The gold market continues to struggle to attract any significant buying momentum as global monetary policy continues to shift toward higher interest rates. This new tightening cycle was led by the European Central Bank, which increased interest rates by 25 basis points last week amid rising inflation pressures. This week, the Federal Reserve signaled support for at least one rate hike before the end of the year in its updated economic projections, and the Bank of England is also joining the hawkish trend.

U.K. central bank says it may yet raise rates to tame inflation triggered by closure of the energy bottleneck.

The Bank of England is widely expected to maintain borrowing costs at 3.75% on Thursday as central banks assess the potential end of the Iran conflict.

SUMMARY The Fed is on hold as inflation concerns continue. The US Trend remains positive and has regained short-term momentum.
