Dividend Data ("we", "us", "our") operates the Dividend Data Excel Add-in and Google Sheets Add-in (the "Add-ins"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our Add-ins.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign up for Dividend Data, we collect:
- Email address (required for account authentication and session management)
- Payment information (processed securely by Stripe; we do not store full credit card numbers)
Data Storage
- Locally cached: Your email address and session data are cached locally in your spreadsheet add-in for performance.
- Server-side: We store your email and usage data on our Azure servers to:
- Authenticate your account
- Track API usage for subscription tier enforcement
- Validate your subscription status
Usage Data
We automatically log:
- API requests made (ticker symbols queried, functions used)
- Usage counts for credit tracking
- Timestamps of requests
- Subscription tier validation requests
What We Do NOT Collect
- Spreadsheet contents — We do not access, read, or store the contents of your spreadsheets.
- Personal financial data — The Add-ins fetch public market data only; we do not access your brokerage accounts or personal portfolio holdings.
- Formulas or cell data — Only the specific parameters you pass to our functions (like ticker symbols) are transmitted.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Authenticate your account and validate your subscription tier
- Track usage against your plan limits (free tier: 5 requests/month)
- Provide financial data through the Add-ins
- Process payments and refunds
- Send important account notifications
- Improve our services and troubleshoot issues
Data Flow
All data requests from the Add-ins are routed through our Azure API:
Your Spreadsheet → Dividend Data Azure API → Data Providers → Back to You
We do NOT send your requests directly to third-party data providers. Your email and usage information stay within our infrastructure.

Note: Data provider requests are made by our servers, not your device. Your identity is not shared with data providers.
We do NOT sell your personal information to third parties.
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures:
- HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
- Secure API key authentication
- Azure database encryption at rest
- Session tokens for local caching (not raw credentials)
Data Retention
- Account data: Retained while your account is active; deleted upon request.
- Usage logs: Retained for 12 months for analytics, billing validation, and debugging.
- Payment records: Retained as required by law (typically 7 years).
- Local cache: Cleared when you sign out or uninstall the Add-in.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and data
- Export your usage data
- Opt out of marketing communications
