Privacy Policy

Dividend Data LLC (“Dividend Data”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the Dividend Data website (dividenddata.com), the Dividend Data Terminal web application, the Dividend Data spreadsheet add-ins for Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel, and our newsletter and related services (collectively, the “Services”).

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. By using any of our Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.

Company: Dividend Data LLC, Maryland, United States. For the purposes of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Dividend Data LLC is the data controller for personal data processed through the Services.

Account Information

When you create a Dividend Data account, we collect:

• Email address — required for authentication, session management, and account communications
• Name and profile details — provided by you or by your sign-in provider (Google or Microsoft) when you use single sign-on
• Payment information — processed securely by our payment processors (including Stripe); we never store full credit card numbers on our servers

Content You Provide

• Portfolio and watchlist data — holdings, transactions, buy targets, and notes you enter manually or import from files
• Preferences — display currency, number format, theme, and similar settings
• Survey and onboarding responses — if you choose to answer them
• Support messages — the contents of requests you send to our support team

Usage Data

We automatically collect:

• API requests made (ticker symbols queried, functions and features used)
• Usage counts for credit tracking and subscription enforcement
• Timestamps of requests
• Device information (IP address, browser type, operating system)
• Pages visited, time spent, and other diagnostic data

We want to be clear about data we never access:

• Spreadsheet contents — our add-ins do not read, access, or store the contents of your spreadsheets. Only the specific parameters you pass to our functions (such as ticker symbols and metric names) are transmitted to our servers.
• Brokerage credentials — if you link a brokerage account, you enter your credentials directly with our aggregation partner (such as Plaid). Your brokerage username and password never touch our servers.
• Full payment card numbers — card details are handled by our payment processors, not stored by us.

We use the information we collect to:

• Authenticate your account and validate your subscription tier
• Track usage against your plan limits and credit allocation
• Provide the Services — financial data, portfolio tracking, watchlists, calendars, screeners, and spreadsheet functions
• Process payments and refunds
• Send account notifications, onboarding, and service-related communications
• Send our newsletter and product updates — creating an account subscribes you to the Dividend Data newsletter, and you may unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email
• Improve the Services, troubleshoot issues, and analyze aggregate usage patterns
• Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, and security incidents
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service

All market-data requests from the add-ins and the Terminal are routed through our own API servers. We do not send your requests directly to third-party data providers, and your identity is never shared with upstream data sources.

Your Spreadsheet / Terminal → Dividend Data API → Data Providers → Back to You

The Terminal offers an entirely opt-in feature that lets you link a brokerage account so your portfolio updates automatically. If you use it:

• The connection is established through authorized third-party aggregation providers (such as Plaid). You authenticate directly with the provider; we never see your brokerage credentials.
• We receive and store read-only data: account holdings, balances, and transaction history. We cannot place trades, move money, or modify your brokerage account in any way.
• We use this data solely to provide portfolio tracking, income analytics, and related features to you. We do not sell it or share it with advertisers.
• You can unlink a brokerage account at any time in your portfolio settings, which stops further syncing. You may also request deletion of previously synced data (see Your Rights & Choices).

Your use of the aggregation provider is also governed by that provider’s own privacy policy (for Plaid, see Plaid’s End User Privacy Policy).

Some features of the Services use large language models to generate research summaries and answers. When you use an AI feature:

• Your query and the context needed to answer it (such as the financial data being discussed) are processed by our AI model providers (currently Anthropic) under agreements that prohibit using our API data to train their models.
• AI interactions may be logged for quality assurance, debugging, cost accounting, and abuse prevention.
• Please do not submit sensitive personal information (such as government ID numbers or account credentials) into AI features — it is never required to use them.

We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.

We share limited data with trusted service providers solely to operate and improve the Services. These providers are bound by contractual obligations to protect your data and may only use it for the purposes we specify:

• Payment processing — payments are handled by Stripe and our subscription platform; we never store your full card number
• Authentication — sign-in and session management are provided by WorkOS, and by Google or Microsoft when you choose single sign-on
• Cloud infrastructure — we host the Services on cloud platforms (including Vercel and Microsoft Azure) in the United States
• Brokerage connectivity — opt-in account linking is handled by authorized aggregation providers such as Plaid
• Financial data providers — public market data is sourced through our API servers; no user identity is shared with these providers
• Product analytics — we use PostHog with a pseudonymous account identifier (never your email) to understand feature usage
• Error monitoring — we use monitoring services (such as Sentry) to detect and fix crashes and bugs
• AI model providers — as described in AI Features
• Email delivery — newsletter and account emails are delivered by our email providers (including Beehiiv)
• Search and security services — ticker lookup is powered by a third-party search provider, and bot protection by services such as Cloudflare Turnstile; no account identifiers are transmitted for these

We may also disclose information when required by law or legal process, to enforce our Terms, to protect the rights, safety, or property of Dividend Data and its users, or as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets (in which case this policy continues to apply to your data, and we will notify you of any change in ownership).

Spreadsheet Add-ins

The add-ins do not use browser cookies. Session data is stored locally using standard Office and Google storage APIs.

Website & Terminal

Our website and Terminal use cookies and similar technologies:

• Essential cookies — session authentication and core functionality; required for the Service to operate
• Functionality cookies — remember your preferences such as display currency, number format, and theme
• Analytics — first-party product analytics tied to a pseudonymous identifier, used in aggregate to improve the Services

Third-party sites we link to (including our blog, checkout pages, and help center) may set their own cookies under their own policies. You can configure your browser to refuse cookies, but some features of the Services will not function without essential cookies. Our Services do not currently respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals.

For our Google Sheets and Excel add-ins specifically, we collect:

• Email address — during installation or sign-in, for authentication
• Session data — cached locally in your spreadsheet environment for performance
• Function parameters — the tickers and metrics you request, for fulfilling requests and credit tracking

Google Limited Use disclosure:Dividend Data’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Google user data only to authenticate you and provide add-on functionality; we do not transfer it except as necessary to provide the add-on, and we never sell it or use it for advertising.

Our Excel add-in’s use of Microsoft platform data likewise complies with Microsoft’s marketplace certification policies.

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

• HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data transmission
• Secure API key and token-based authentication
• Database encryption at rest
• Session tokens for local caching (never raw credentials)
• Access controls limiting data access to authorized personnel

If we become aware of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

• Account data — retained while your account is active; deleted upon verified request
• Portfolio and watchlist data — retained while your account is active so your history and analytics keep working; deleted with your account
• Usage logs — retained for up to 12 months for analytics, billing validation, and debugging
• Payment records — retained as required by tax and accounting law
• Local add-in cache — cleared when you sign out of or uninstall the add-in

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Delete your account and associated data
• Export your data in a portable format
• Opt out of marketing communications at any time (every email has an unsubscribe link)
• Unlink brokerage connections and revoke add-in access at any time
• Object to or restrict certain processing

To exercise any of these rights, email support@dividenddata.com from the address associated with your account. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request, and we will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. We will never discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

Dividend Data is based in the United States, and the Services are hosted there. If you access the Services from outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as standard contractual clauses with our service providers.

For EU/EEA and UK users, our lawful bases for processing are: contract performance (providing the Services you signed up for), legitimate interests (improving and securing the Services), consent (where you opt in, such as brokerage linking and marketing), and legal obligation (tax and accounting records). Your GDPR rights include access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, to access and delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information other than to provide the Services.

In the preceding 12 months we have collected the categories of information described in Information We Collect: identifiers (email, name, IP address), commercial information (subscription and payment records), internet activity (usage data), and financial information you choose to provide (portfolio and brokerage-linked data). We collect it from you, your devices, and your chosen integrations, and disclose it only to the service providers listed in Sharing & Service Providers.

Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have similar rights of access, correction, deletion, and portability, and the right to opt out of targeted advertising (which we do not engage in). You may exercise any of these rights — directly or through an authorized agent — by emailing support@dividenddata.com. If we decline a request, you may appeal by replying to our decision.

The Services are not intended for anyone under 18 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page with a new “Last updated” date, and we will notify you of material changes by email or in-app notice. Your continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
