Project Your Dividend Income with the Dividend Calculator
How the free Dividend Calculator projects the income a stock or fund pays you, reinvesting or taking cash, and what a monthly income goal takes.
The Dividend Calculator is free, with no account needed. It answers two questions: how much income an investment pays you in the years ahead, and how much you need to invest for a monthly income goal.
Set Your Inputs
- Stock or Fund. Type a ticker or a name and press Enter for the top result (or the arrow keys, or a click), for any stock, ETF, mutual fund or closed-end fund that pays a current dividend, or press one of the popular picks. The calculator reads the same price, forward dividend and dividend growth the security's Dividend tab shows. The × in the field clears the pick. The Stock or Fund / Custom Yield switch at the top of the inputs lets you type any yield instead.
- Starting With. An amount of money, or a number of shares valued at today's price (the switch inside the field).
- Monthly Contribution, Years and an optional Income Goal a month.
- Assumptions. Press Edit to change them. Dividend Growth opens on the ticker's own 5-year dividend growth rate (the 1-year rate when there is no 5-year record), kept between 0% and 25%; the 5Y Rate and 1Y Rate buttons set either one. Price Growth follows the dividend growth until you change it, so the yield holds steady; it moves the balance, not the income. Dividend Tax opens at 0% (an IRA or another tax-sheltered account); only the after-tax dividend is reinvested.
On a phone, the main fields sit right above the answer; Edit opens the goal and the assumptions in a sheet. The calculator opens with nothing picked: until you pick, or with a pick that pays no dividend, the answer's place shows popular dividend picks to load with one press.
Read the Results
The answer leads with the monthly income in your final year with dividends reinvested, then what taking them as cash pays, plus annual income, balance and yield on cost. With a goal set, it says the year each choice reaches it and what the goal takes invested today. The chart draws both lines, and Year by Year shows monthly and annual income, yield on cost, balance, money in and the dividends received, for reinvesting or taking cash. The address bar keeps your inputs, so you can bookmark or share a result.
From a Stock or Fund Page
Every Dividend tab has a calculator card: Shares shows the next payment, the monthly average and the annual income for the shares you type, and Income Goal shows the shares a monthly income takes, their cost, their next payment and the year's income. Open the Dividend Calculator carries the ticker and shares over.
Your Whole Portfolio
The calculator projects one investment. A free Portfolio tracks up to 20 holdings and the dividends they pay, and the Pro Forecast runs the same projection over everything you own, with Bear and Bull cases.
