Mila Resources PLC (LSE:MILA), the gold and copper development company focused on Australia, has identified compelling drill targets for potential copper and gold mineralisation at its Monal project in south-eastern Queensland. The targets emerged from induced polarisation surveys, a geophysical technique that maps buried mineral zones by measuring how rocks hold and release electrical charge.

"The trend is very much your friend," says Evy Hambro, head of fundamental equities thematic and sector investing at BlackRock, when asked about the rise in copper prices. "We are seeing a very tight market," he tells Bloomberg Television.

The U.S. consumes only 6% to 7% of the world's copper but now holds close to 70% of visible exchange inventory. Saxo Bank's head of commodity strategy says some of it could stay put.

Copper's physical market is showing signs of an increasingly severe supply squeeze even as mining equities remain cautious, according to RBC Capital Markets. Spot copper advanced 4.3% to US$6.73/lb over the week while copper equities fell 2.6%, widening the disconnect between the commodity and producers.

Copper has spent 2026 rewriting its own history books. In early August, the metal pushed above $14,300 per tonne on the London Metal Exchange, a fresh all-time high extending a rally few expected to run this far, this fast.

Mining shares dominated the FTSE 100 fallers board on Friday, extending a retreat that has taken roughly 8% off the sector since Wednesday lunchtime. Antofagasta PLC (LSE:ANTO) led the decliners, down 3.5% at 3,625p, followed by Glencore PLC (LSE:GLEN), off 2.2% at 548.3p, and Fresnillo PLC (LSE:FRES), down 2.1% at 2,810.5p.

The price premium between U.S. COMEX copper futures and London Metal Exchange prices is becoming a real-time gauge of potential tariffs on refined copper. Societe Generale estimates that the current premium implies a 14.6% chance of a 15% tariff in January 2027 and a 37% chance of a 30% duty in January 2028.

Mila Resources PLC (LSE:MILA) has secured 100% ownership of its three Queensland gold and copper project areas, giving it full control of the portfolio as it prepares for imminent drilling at Yarrol. The company completed its option agreement with EMX Royalty Corp, covering Yarrol, Mount Steadman and Mount Weary, which encompasses the Monal Gold-Copper Project.
