With just nine new ETFs launching on U.S. exchanges, the week ending May 17, 2024, was fairly unremarkable in that regard. However, there was plenty of other activity in the space including closures and name changes.

During the week, a total of 16 new ETFs debuted on the U.S. markets. These included launches from AllianzIM, ProShares, Split Rock Trading, River1 Asset Management, Rayliant, Strategas, and Alger.

Emerging markets continued to expand at a solid pace midway into the first quarter of 2024, supported by broad-based expansion across both manufacturing and service sectors.

The week ending March 8 saw a lot of activity in the ETF industry, with 17 new ETFs debuting and several closures. A range of ETFs also underwent or expect to enact material changes.

The week ending in February 15 featured the Exchange conference in Miami, Florida, and launches were muted as a result. Only one new ETF made its debut during the week.

Although 14 new ETFs debuted in the U.S. this past week, closure announcements came in even stronger, largely due to Global X pruning its lineup. Launches during the week included funds from BondBloxx, WisdomTree, Innovator, JPMorgan, and Range ETFs.

Global inflation and a strong dollar may have been turning investors away from emerging markets (EM), but bargain hunters might be inclined to find value amongst these battered assets. Investors looking to tail the plays of asset managers might also find that EM present an opportunity.
