This fund allocates a minimum of 80% of its total holdings to debt instruments that are either backed or sponsored by the U.S. government, its various agencies, and associated entities. This primary investment includes U.S. dollar-denominated bonds and other debt obligations, which can also be accessed via derivative contracts. Furthermore, the fund has the flexibility to acquire mortgage-backed securities (MBS) issued by federal agencies and instrumentalities, even if these specific MBS do not carry the explicit full faith and credit guarantee of the U.S. government.
