Dividend Metric
Dividend Yield
Annual dividend as a percentage of stock price
What is dividend yield?
The dividend yield expresses annual dividends per share as a percentage of the current stock price. A higher yield means more income per dollar invested, but extreme yields often signal the market expects a dividend cut.
Dividend Yield = (Annual Dividend / Stock Price) × 100
What counts as a good dividend yield?
2–5% is typical for blue-chip dividend stocks; 6%+ deserves scrutiny

FAQ
Is a high dividend yield always good?
No. Yields above 6–7% often signal that the market expects a dividend cut. The yield rises mechanically when the stock price falls, so a high yield can simply mean the market has lost confidence.
